Legal status of the war

What is war?

War – is an armed conflict between two or more states, or groups of people, which may involve violence, destruction, and loss of life. Wars can be caused by various reasons, such as competition for resources, religious and ideological differences, territorial disputes, and so on. Wars often have serious consequences for all those involved in the conflict, including civilians, soldiers, animals and the environment.

Almost from the very beginning of the existence of mankind on planet Earth, we are constantly in conflicts, both interstate and within countries. Usually everything starts with politics at the local level, and then at the state level. Elections to power always offer us at least two parties with absolutely opposite points of view on the development of a region or country. Each such party, as a rule, has rich sponsors who are able to sponsor a fairly aggressive election campaign. Thanks to this, on all channels or advertising tables of cities, we see the slogans of one party against everything that is offered by another party. This is called internal war or struggle of ideas. If these processes take place within a fully democratic country, for example, in one of the countries of the European Union or in the United States, then here citizens express their point of view, in which country they would like to live and how to develop politically and economically. If, however, such events take place in a dictatorial or semi-democratic country, then this is a direct conflict of interests between the people and the ruling elite, which leads to a civil clash, which significantly weakens the army and attracts an external aggressor to attack. What happened in Ukraine in 2014 and led to a full-scale war in 2022, when Russia attacked us along the entire borderline, including the border with Belarus.

Why is war needed?

In terms of politics, war can be used to achieve certain political goals, such as establishing or changing borders, changing government systems, establishing control over resources, and so on. Also, war can be used to strengthen or change the international influence of a country, to show its military power and ability to protect its interests. From an economic point of view, war can have both positive and negative consequences. On the one hand, war can lead to an increase in demand for products and services related to the military industry, and therefore contribute to the development of the economy. On the other hand, war can lead to the destruction of production facilities, infrastructure and population, which can have long-term negative consequences for the country’s economy. In general, war is considered a last resort, which should be used only in extreme cases when other methods of conflict resolution do not work. War can cause great loss of life and destruction, and therefore must be used with caution and only when necessary to protect the lives and interests of the people.

What does the UN do during a war?

The United Nations (UN) was created to maintain peace and security in the world and has a major role in preventing conflicts and resolving international disputes through peaceful means. In addition, the UN can solve problems related to humanitarian crises and economic problems in the world. One of the main functions of the UN is to maintain peace and security in the world. The UN has a Security Council, which is responsible for taking action in case of violation of peace and security in the world. The Security Council can use various measures such as economic sanctions, diplomatic action, peacekeeping operations and even the use of force, if necessary, to prevent or end a conflict. In the event of a war between two or more states, the UN may take action to prevent or end the conflict. However, if the conflict has already begun, then the UN may decide to use force to end the conflict and restore peace and security in the affected regions. This can be done through peacekeeping operations or missions that include a UN military presence to prevent violations of peace and security.

Thus, the UN plays an important role in the prevention and cessation of wars, and its mechanisms can be used to maintain peace and security throughout the world.

What is the post-war period?

The post-war period is the period of time that occurs after the end of the war, when countries are trying to recover and return to normal life. During this period, social, economic and political changes usually occur, which are aimed at restoring destroyed infrastructures, rebuilding the economy and creating peaceful conditions for the life of the population.

The post-war period may include such events:

  1. Demobilization of the military;
  2. Repatriation of prisoners of war;
  3. Return of refugees and migrants, their registration at a new place of residence;
  4. Restoration of cities and villages;
  5. Recovery of production, registration of new businesses;
  6. Restoration of international relations and the establishment of new government systems.

In addition, the post-war period may include war crimes trials and security arrangements to prevent future wars. The post-war period can last for many years, and its success depends on many factors, such as the availability of resources, the presence of political will, the restoration of the economy and social infrastructure, the establishment of international cooperation, and so on. In general, the post-war period is an important time period for countries to recover and move to a peaceful life.
